A "road racer" style car modification that became a big hit among young Japanese car enthusiasts in the early 1980s. The basic theory is that the car is modified to imitate a race car, with the engine and exterior changed specifically for circuit driving. At that time, it was difficult to legally modify cars, so these were so-called illegal modifications and had a strong outlaw image.
Particularly popular among street racers were the thick race car tires and wheels, and the over fenders that were attached to cover them. In the 2000s, Liberty Walk in Aichi Prefecture popularized this old-school modification method of docking modern supercars and sports cars around the world. This 35GT-RR has been customized to such an extent that it has silhouette-style fenders inspired by the FIA's Group 5 standard race cars (Silhouette Formula), which were popular worldwide in the 1980s.
